When a community comes together, incredible things happen. This was the case when RSM, a leading audit, tax, and consulting firm, came out to YouthCare for a day of volunteering that left a lasting impact. Around fifty dedicated RSM volunteers rolled up their sleeves and spent the day at six YouthCare sites deep-cleaning, providing a Cook and Serve lunch, and removing furniture. Completing these projects was much needed, and RSM did an amazing job!

RSM works to help people “experience the power of being understood” with nearly 100 years spent advising businesses and instilling “confidence in a world of change”. At YouthCare, we appreciate the value RSM upholds in giving back to the young people in our community.

What made this day of volunteering unique was the immense scope and reach of the project. Around fifty volunteers traveled across Seattle to six different YouthCare sites including engagement centers and housing programs, working together to create a welcoming, clean atmosphere for both the staff and the youth. It was a massive undertaking!

Clara Bailey, Senior Manager of Mergers & Acquisitions Tax Services, commented, “At RSM we believe in building a better future by demonstrating a responsibility to our people, clients, communities and planet, which is why we choose a local organization each year to support financially and through volunteerism. We were inspired by the great work that YouthCare does and our employees were excited to roll up their sleeves and give back in a more personal way through meal preparation and beautification projects across the various YouthCare locations. RSM employees saw the direct impact of their volunteer work onsite and the important work YouthCare does for Seattle’s youth experiencing homelessness. Volunteering with YouthCare was a great experience and remains one of our firm’s favorite activities of the year.”

YouthCare is so thankful for the contribution of every RSM volunteer. The impact of a clean and organized space goes beyond looks – it creates a sense of safety and comfort for the young people who walk through YouthCare’s doors. Beyond the deep-cleaned spaces, cooking, and physical labor, they left an imprint of care, compassion, and community spirit.

Aidan, a volunteer that day and former intern at RSM, remarked, “As a youth myself I think that the difference between someone like myself, who had the privilege to grow up with a support system, and somebody who struggles with homelessness, is just that difference of support. I felt like it was rewarding to come here today where I can hopefully make a positive impact on a person’s life. It was a really fun experience because I really got to get in and see the house and get dirty and see the before and after results.”

We appreciate every RSM volunteer for taking time out of their busy schedules to give back to their community. Each project completed during this day will be seen and felt for a long time to come! With partners like RSM, we can live out our mission to end youth homelessness and to ensure that young people are valued for who they are and empowered to achieve their potential.

Thank you so much, RSM!
