YouthCare is honored to be chosen as the primary charitable partner for Seattle’s official NHL Team, the Seattle Kraken! We’re thrilled to make new friends and invite our vibrant community of hockey fans to learn more about our work of ending youth homelessness in Seattle.
A little background…
In 2017, The Oak View Group approached YouthCare to be their primary charitable partner in Seattle as they worked to redevelop Key Arena and bring leadership to the community. From day one, we could see that the OVG team shared our passion for young people and their potential.
Young people experiencing homelessness often tell us they feel invisible in our city. Now, they are at the front and center of this historic moment thanks to OVG & NHL Seattle Kraken. Together, we will provide training and job opportunities for countless young people, right here in the middle of the city. We will help young people thrive with the generous support of a $10 million financial commitment from OVG over the course of twenty years. And we will form new and impactful relationships with our community to drive our mission of ending youth homelessness forward.
Here are five ways you can get involved now!
1.) Head over to the Release the Kraken online shop for some fan gear!
The Seattle Kraken will donate 100% of net proceeds through August 21 to local nonprofits, including YouthCare, Community Passageways, and the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, to help end youth homelessness and create positive pathways and opportunities for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) youth in our region. As Triston, a YouthCare alumni said:
“When people walk down the street and see a young person who is homeless, they don’t usually stop to think, ‘Hey, this is somebody who could be great. This is somebody that can do something better than what they are, but they just don’t have the opportunity to do it.’ That’s what YouthCare did for me.”
