Girlvolution is Powerful Voices’ annual youth-led, social justice conference! that invites the community to participate in collective dialogue and restorative change facilitated by youth voice and agency. Our Activistas program is a 12 week employment program for nine 14-17 year old girls who will be supported by 10 Adult Allies to create and present an interactive workshop on a social justice topic that impacts them and their community.

Our theme this year, Dare to Be _____, is based on the powerful Audre Lorde and her quote, “When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.” This #SHEro was a queer, black scholar, activist, poet, author, and more who left us foundational and profound lessons on how to navigate the world in a just and critical way. Under capitalism, girls of color can overwhelmed with barriers. But when we are rooted in our power and united on our goals, our strength to disrupt and fight back becomes a force to reckon with against the barriers of racism, misogyny, classism, and more.
