YouthCare’s our independent living programs offer young people apartments where they can cultivate skills to live and work on their own. During their time in the program, young people build community, learn independent living skills, and work with staff to set education, employment, and long-term housing goals. YouthCare offers independent living apartments to young people ages 18-24.

Over-18 Independent Living

Rapid Re-Housing and Open Doors

These programs help young people find apartments across the city and county. Participants receive rental assistance for up to one year while they work with their case manager to achieve their goals and work toward independence.

Home of Hope

Home of Hope offers ten, two-bedroom apartments for young people located in the University District. Young people can stay at Home of Hope for an average of three months while they work to build skills and find housing. They then receive an average of nine months of case management and rapid-re-housing support.

University Commons at the Marion West

University Commons at the Marion West is a twenty-unit permanent supportive housing program. The Marion West Building holds University Commons, the University District Food Bank, workforce housing, and a coffee shop called Street Bean. Within University Commons, YouthCare manages apartments and provides case management services for formerly homeless young adults. The Marion West won the Vision 2040 Award from Puget Sound Regional Council in 2018, which recognizes “superb work being done by public and private organizations to achieve our region’s growth, economic, and transportation strategy.”

James Place Studios at YouthCare

James Place Studios at YouthCare opened on July 1, 2019. This newly constructed building offers thirteen beautiful efficiency studios for young people who have transitioned from homelessness and are pursuing their education and career pathways while building a community of support. James Place Studios was born out of a partnership with long-time supporters and private developers, John Zmolek and Jerry Jutting, to collaborate and bring high-quality and affordable housing options to the community.
