DESCRIPTION:Girlvolution is Powerful Voices’ annual youth-led\, social justice conference! that invites the community to participate in collective dialogue and restorative change facilitated by youth voice and agency. Our Activistas program is a 12 week employment program for nine 14-17 year old girls who will be supported by 10 Adult Allies to create and present an interactive workshop on a social justice topic that impacts them and their community. \nOur theme this year\, Dare to Be _____\, is based on the powerful Audre Lorde and her quote\, “When I dare to be powerful\, to use my strength in the service of my vision\, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.” This #SHEro was a queer\, black scholar\, activist\, poet\, author\, and more who left us foundational and profound lessons on how to navigate the world in a just and critical way. Under capitalism\, girls of color can overwhelmed with barriers. But when we are rooted in our power and united on our goals\, our strength to disrupt and fight back becomes a force to reckon with against the barriers of racism\, misogyny\, classism\, and more.

DESCRIPTION:Whether it is called diversity\, equity and inclusion\, multiculturalism\, or anti-racism\, the role of leading equity initiatives in the workplace can be challenging. Many organizations have created these positions in the past ten years\, and those hired are coming in without any clear direction. Equity leaders often feel isolated and can quickly become frustrated or feel overwhelmed. However\, if we can come together to collaborate and learn from each other’s mistakes and successes\, perhaps we can craft an easier path forward. As Paulo Freire said\, “We make the road by walking.” \nThis workshop provides an opportunity for equity leaders to share strategies for organizational change\, problem solve some of the challenges they face\, and to network. Each participant will be asked to bring an example of a success story\, strategy\, or tool to share. Everyone will be given time to discuss challenges and hear the best thinking from their colleagues. DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Fran Partridge & Marlon Brown\n(A light breakfast and lunch included) \nRacial Equity Consultants LLC (REC) aspires to create a world in which each and every human being is seen and valued for who they are and the talents\, brilliance and beauty they contribute to the healing of our communities \nWe begin with an anti-oppression framework vital to developing an in-depth analysis of how racism\, sexism\, homophobia\, transphobia and xenophobia became institutionalized and imbedded in dominant culture. This framework helps to highlight the institutional privileges and systemic inequities embedded in the current socio-political conditions that influence and affect our institutions. Through our cross-racial lens\, we purposefully and strategically confront the internalized and institutionalized power of race and racism.\nREC understands and teaches that while we are not to blame for the current inequities that people of color face\, we are responsible for changing the disproportionate social and institutional outcomes of the world in which we live. If we interrogate and transform the institutional policies and practices that continue to exclude and impact people of color and we vigilantly unpack and dismantle the system of racism\, we will create an institutional culture in which every community member thrives.\nTraining is a key part of organizational change work.
